The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) (formerly the University and Community College System of Nevada, or "UCCSN") was founded in 1968 to oversee all state-sponsored colleges in the State of Nevada. The name was changed in 2005. Two doctorate research universities, a state university, four community colleges and a research institute form the system. About 105,000 students attend the colleges. The Nevada University Board of Regents has decided to drop the Community name as of July 1, 2007 from both the Community College of Southern Nevada and the Western Nevada Community College
