New York (NY) 

New York Professional Sports, League, College and High School Sports

New York has two Major League Baseball teams, the New York Yankees (based in the Bronx) and the New York Mets (based in Queens). New York is home to three National Hockey League franchises: the New York Rangers in Manhattan, the New York Islanders in Brooklyn and the Buffalo Sabres in Buffalo. New York has two National Basketball Association teams, the New York Knicks in Manhattan, and the Brooklyn Nets in Brooklyn. New York has one Major League Soccer team: New York City FC. Although the New York Red Bulls represent the New York metropolitan area they play in Red Bull Arena, located in Harrison, New Jersey.

New York is the home of one National Football League team, the Buffalo Bills (based in the suburb of Orchard Park). Although the New York Giants and New York Jets represent the New York metropolitan area and were previously located in New York City, they play in MetLife Stadium, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and both have their headquarters and training facilities in New Jersey. The Meadowlands stadium hosted Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014, in which New York and New Jersey shared hosting duties.

They play their home games in the suburb of Orchard Park, and beginning in 2008, one home game is played in Toronto. They are members of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Bills began competitive play in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League and joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL merger.

New York Giants Team Logo

The New York Giants are a professional American football team based in East Rutherford, New Jersey, part of the New York metropolitan area. The team is scheduled to play at Meadowlands Stadium beginning in the 2010 NFL season. In a unique arrangement, the team will share the stadium with the New York Jets.

The Giants are currently members of the Eastern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). They were one of five teams that joined the NFL in 1925, but the only one admitted that year which still exists.

The Giants rank third among all NFL franchises with seven NFL titles: four in the pre–Super Bowl era (1927, 1934, 1938, 1956) and three since the advent of the Super Bowl (Super Bowls XXI (1986), XXV (1990), and XLII (2007).

New York Jets Team Logo

The New York Jets is a professional American football team based in the New York metropolitan area. They are members of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team plays its home games in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at Giants Stadium. The team is scheduled to play at Meadowlands Stadium beginning in the 2010 NFL season. In a unique arrangement, the team will share the stadium with the New York Giants. The team's training facility and corporate headquarters, which opened in 2008, are located in Florham Park, New Jersey. Previously they had headquartered and trained at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, on Long Island.

The team began in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League under the name New York Titans. It was renamed after a five-man syndicate bought the team in 1963. The Jets later joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL Merger.

The Jets hold the distinction of being the first AFL team to defeat an NFL club in an AFL-NFL World Championship Game when they defeated the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.
