Stockton California Churches and Places of Worship

A Church has two commonly used meanings

Often the word 'Church' is used to describe a place of worship or gathering of religious believers. It is also commonly used to describe the collective people or congregation who meet in a Church building or otherwise to represent the worldwide body of a religious community.

Church of the Presentation

The Church: The Evolution of Catholicism by Richard P. McBrien - You can always count on books by Richard McBrien to be organized and easy to read. THE CHURCH becomes another prime example. It's both a reference book which one can take pleasure in as much as it being a history book filled with interesting people who inspire events. The organization of the book makes it simple to select the level of detail at which you feel like reading and without interruption. He manages controversial topics in a dispassionate, matter-of-fact tone that is refreshing. As book that helps put the 21st century church into a proper perspective. See Lodi Church Page

In the book, 'Churches That Make a Difference' - has most clearly been a well-liked Christian book, now in the third print. It's subtitle, "Reaching Your Community with Good News and Good Works", advocates the subject matter, specifically - ways to bring together both Good Works and Good News within the Church. The great strength of the book is the contents are based upon fifteen "in-depth research cases" of Churches within the greater Philadelphia region. That is to say, this study has its feet firmly planted in reality. Although in my opinion its weakness, is the "makeshift" theology - not that the authors promote any particular theology, although because the theology wasn't particularly well thought out, tending to unravel especially within the details.

The first buildings was dedicated on July 28, 1851, having been constructed at a cost of $12,000. Central's home from 1851-1958

The fourth structure the church occupied (including the tent) was a magnificent brick structure dedicated on April 5, 1891. It was built on the site where the first tent meeting was held. The building seated one-thousand and was built at a cost of $86,000.

On July 20, 1958, the last service was held in "Old Central". The stained glass windows that grace the narthex of the current church were brought from the former church building. Central's new home 1964 On June 7, 1964, Central consecrated its new sanctuary and Fellowship Hall at Pacific and Fulton Avenues, across the street from University of the Pacific.
