Stockton Photo Album  Stockton is the County seat for San Joaquin County.

Stockton is situated along the San Joaquin Delta waterway which connects to the San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. Stockton is located 60 miles east of the San Francisco Bay Area, 83 miles east of San Francisco, and 45 miles south of Sacramento, the capital of California. (See Map)

Stockton has undergone a tremendous economic expansion and has aggressively revitalized its downtown. Projects in the downtown area along the waterfront included an indoor arena, baseball stadium, hotel, apartments, retail, and housing. Stockton is also constructing retail and entertainment centers at the gateways of the city. The 16-screen City Centre Cinemas was completed in December 2003.

Stockton offers an excellent quality of life for its residents. The City has a number of beautiful residential communities along waterways, with single-family homes costing about one-third the price of homes in the Bay Area.  Stockton was designated an All-America City by the National Civic League.

Valley Fog: Winter in the San Joaquin Valley means the onset of Tule Fog. So far this season we have had several days of very dense fog. Radiation Fog, or Tule Fog as it is known in the Central Valley, develops on clear nights with light wind when the ground is moist. At night, the ground cools rapidly, which in turn cools the air near the surface. As the air cools, the moisture is condensed into tiny water droplets and fog is formed. As this process continues, the depth of the fog layer gradually increases and becomes more dense, often reducing visibility to one-quarter mile or less. The long nights of late fall and winter are ideal for this type of fog development.
